By now we can too readily imagine the horror of terrorists exploding a nuclear weapon in a major American city: the gutted skyscrapers, the melted cars, the charred bodies.

Ok, you've got my attention, but I've read this sort of long, sober, but utterly hair-raising Sunday Times Mag "they"-could-nuke-NYC-or-Washington article just once too often. Here comes another, just at the moment we have three full carrier task forces within striking distance of Tehran.

Again, the operative word is terror.
